In every summer entire entertainment industry goes into overdrive mode to attract eyeballs and this time is no different. However, those at Tollywood have to package their product with extra care as they have battle it out with the ultimate combo of entertainment and sport that is the IPL. Cinema may still be the numero uno in terms of entertainment in this country but sometimes even the lion takes a back seat as nothing else can be inferred from the fact that as many as 30 films, many of them big banner, are lined up to be released and are put on back burner just in case.
After waiting it out this long, Tollywood just doesn’t seem to have the patience to delay the proceedings any further as big budget flicks like Balakrishna’s Mithrudu and Raviteja’s Kick seem to be successful in creating a level of anticipation not seen since last summer. Allu Arjun’s ‘Aarya 2’, Surya’s ‘Veedokkade’, Srikanth’s ‘Aa Aaa Ee Eee’, Ramcharan’s ‘Maghadheerudu’, Vikram’s ‘Mallanna’, Sekhar Kammula’s ‘Leader’, Jagapathi Babu’s ‘Bangaaru Babu’ , Rajasekhar’s ‘Naa Style Veru’ and Siddharth’s ‘Oye’ are just some of the 30-odd Tollywood flicks waiting to grab the attention of film buffs this season and even try to eat into the share of the IPL.
Democratic elections seem to have been the main culprit behind many a film’s delay as most stars and character artists took an active part in the elections this time around. Trade analysts aren’t too keen on taking the plunge against this backdrop as one analyst put it “The masses who decide the fate of the films were busy with elections and no way could those crowds have been drawn to theatres”. Now that the elections are over, the Stars are back to what they do best –films.
Just on the lighter sides, the Deccan Chargers seem to be at their rampaging best in the IPL and one expects Tollywood to match the might. All in all this could well turn out to be the most exciting summer since a long time.
