Trisha goes to Bollywood!

South’s leading actress Trisha has signed her first Hindi film with top Bollywood star Akshay Kumar! The film, tentatively titled Khatta Meeta, is to be directed by hot shot director Priyadarsan. Akshay Kumar is producing the film under his home banner in association with a major production house. Sources close to Akshay say that Trisha was the personal choice of the actor who saw a DVD of her Tamil film Abhiyum Naanum, before confirming her as his heroine.

Later, Trisha flew to Mumbai and met Akshay Kumar who was impressed by her and asked her to coordinate with Priyan. After Shah Rukh Khan introduced Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om, and Aamir introduced Asin in Ghajini, Akshay has become the latest Bollywood hero to introduce a south Indian heroine to Bollywood.

Talking to Chennai Times, Priyadarsan confirmed, “Yes, Trisha is playing the heroine opposite Akshay Kumar in this film. Akshay was keen on doing the film with a new face and after seeing Trisha’s performance in a few south movies, he thought that she would be the right choice.”

Priyan refused to reveal the role that Trisha will be doing in the film. “It is a breezy romantic comedy film with all the essential ingredients that you will find in an Akshay Kumar film,” is all that he will say.

Says Trisha with her infectious smile, “I always knew that if I ever had to do a Hindi film, then I would wait for the right one to come along. Priyan is the person who introduced me to films. Even after I completed Lesa Lesa, I wanted to go back to studies as I thought that acting was not my cup of tea. It was he who counselled me to continue acting.”

On whether she intends to do more Hindi films, Trisha says, “I am focussed, but not highly ambitious as there are no major targets that I want to meet in life. I’m glad that Priyan has given me this opportunity and all I want is to go and do my best. I leave the rest to destiny.”

The shoot of the film is scheduled in October/November in Panchgani, and will be over in a single schedule. Pritam will compose the music for the film, which is likely to have six songs. The rest of the cast is being finalised.
